Training the Spam Filter

The Spam Filter relies on the fact that spam you receive "looks" very different from your real email. It checks the words in the document against your personal database of "spam words" and "ham words", and uses a statistical calculation to compute the likelihood that the message is spam or ham.

You will need to train the Spam Filter to better determine which emails are spam and which are not.

Log in to your email control panel via https://www.yourdomainname.com:7777 and use your email address as the user name, and email password as the password.

Click on "Spam Training".

If you see any legitimate emails in the ".Spam" folder, you can train the Spam Filter by ticking on the legitimate email and then clicking on "Train as Ham". In future, emails from the same sender will not be flagged as Spam.

If you see any spam emails in your "Maildir", you can tick the spam email and then click on "Train as Spam". In future, emails from the same sender will be flagged as Spam and moved to the Spam (or Junk) folder.

You can also click on "Clear Spam DB" to start the Spam Filter from scratch. This is useful if the spam filter has been flagging real emails as spam repeatedly.

2 levels of Spam filtering has been enabled on all email accounts.

First level: recognized spam
You will see a new "Spam" folder in your IMAP4 folder.
All mails marked as spam will be dumped inside this folder by the mail server.
Spam filter can be trained to recognise spam and non-spam mails.

Second level: mail server verification
You may notice a delay when receiving emails from new email address as the spam filter will need to verify if the sender mail server is legitimate. Once the sending mail server is verified, future emails from the same email address on the server will not be delayed.
